Sibirtelecom starts to provide Internet services based on GPON technology in Kemerovo Region.  Kemerovo and Novokuznetsk rounded up the five biggest Siberian cities following Novosibirsk, Omsk, and Krasnoyarsk, where the Company completed the construction of GPON passive optical networks.

At the first stage 70 apartment buildings will be connected using GPON technology in Kemerovo region in the cities of Kemerovo and Novokuznetsk; the total capacity of Internet ports will be 4.2 thousand. The second launch is planned for the 4th quarter this year. It is planned to connect 171 apartment buildings in all in the cities of Kemerovo, Novoskuznetsk, Prokopyevsk, Belovo, Polysayevo, Leninsk-Kuzntesky, and Anzhero-Sudzhensk. Reference: GPON  (Gigabit-capable рassive optical network) is a technology of passive optical networks.  GPON makes it possible to increase the network transmission capacity up to 1Gb/s, to provide high quality of video signal transmission, and to render new services.  The network is constructed using passive splitters of optical power that do not require power supply and servicing. It has a special 100% optical channel from a telephone exchange to a customer's apartment/office, which makes it possible to improve the quality of signal (voice, data transmission, video) and to increase the speed of data transmission by tens of times.
