OREANDA-NEWS. August 19, 2010. According to Russian Union of Sugar Producers, 24 wagons with this volume of “sweet sand” from Moldova are passing the customs clearance in Bryansk Oblast.

In spite of only in spring Moldova imported sugar from Europe, on the threshold of sugar receipt from sugar beet of new harvest it empties the warehouse containers.

While in 2009 because of drought (from July to October there were no rains) about 45 thousand tons of sugar were produced, this year the production of sugar in Moldova is expected at near 90 thousand tons.

Thus, with consumption of about 70 thousand tons the export potential of Moldova in 2010 will make up 20 thousand tons of sugar. It should be noted that Moldova and Russia concluded a Free Trade Agreement within which the sugar produced from sugar beet may freely move between two countries.
