OREANDA-NEWS. August 23, 2010. Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis held a meeting with Dr. Istvan Mohacsi, Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary to Latvia, during his farewell visit. Both officials discussed bilateral cooperation, the situation in the Latvian economy and Latvia's priorities during Hungary's EU Presidency in the first half of 2011.

The Prime Minister thanked the Hungarian Ambassador for his contribution to the development of bilateral relations and to organisation of high-level visits. Both sides acknowledged active cooperation of Hungary and Latvian in the areas of culture and education by providing Latvian language studies in two universities in Hungary and by similar studies of the Hungarian language in the University of Latvia. Both countries have also developed extensive cooperation in he area of literature.

Hungarian Ambassador Dr. Istvan Mohacsi informed that due to Hungary's EU Presidency it is planned to organise visits of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to all EU Member States at the end of this year. Prime Minister Dombrovskis emphasised that Latvia sees the next EU Financial Perspective and common agricultural policy as issues of particular importance.
 
Both sides also discussed their experiences in overcoming the economic crisis and in negotiations with the international lenders. Valdis Dombrovskis noted that Latvia's economy indicates stabilisation and growth which is proved by the improved indicators of the first quarters of 2010, for instance, GDP, industrial production, retail amounts and export volumes.

At the end of the visit the officials expressed their hope for a direct air flight Riga – Budapest which would significantly promote bilateral cooperation.
