OREANDA-NEWS. August 23, 2010. Moldova will resume honey exports to the EU next September after a break of more than two years. The head of the National Bee-keepers' Association, Stefan Condratiuc, made a statement to this effect at the inauguration of the contest-exhibition Bee-keeping Fair.

Condratiuc said that the resumption of honey exports was allowed last July, and added that annually, Moldova could export about 1,700 tons of honey to the EU markets.

The European Union ceased honey imports from Moldova in June 2008, after traces of antibiotics had been discovered in it.

About 3,500 bee-keepers work in Moldova, and the maximal production potential stands at about 12,000 tons.
