OREANDA-NEWS. August 23, 2010. Ingosstrakh OJSIC paid the major part of the indemnity to the Indian reinsurance corporation JIC in the amount of USD 124,725 according to the in-world obligatory reinsurance agreement. 

The loss is connected with the total destruction of the Aban Pearl natural gas drilling platform in the Caribbean Sea near the coasts of Venezuela

Before the accident, the installation had successfully performed drilling and testing work at the Dragon 6 gas well, the depth of which is 8,200 feet. In the evening of May 12, 2010, the installation was operating in normal mode when the employees found that water was flowing into the pump room located in the stern in the lower part of the buoyant tank. The staff did not manage to take over the control of the situation, water gradually flooded other rooms of the installation, and the installation sank in the morning of May 13, 2010. The crew of 95 people successfully evacuated.

The surveyors acknowledged the total loss of the gas drilling platform. The loss was 100% of the insurance amount and was estimated as USD 235 mln.
