OREANDA-NEWS. August 24, 2010.  Officials of US company Trimble, which deals with geodesy and construction equipment, say the GLONASS-based navigation equipment market grows in the USA, due to Russian policy in this branch.

"Russia maintains long-term polity which implies opened and free access to GLONASS data all over the world. So, manufacturers prefer to apply GLONASS in their solutions”, a Trimble’s representative stated.

Support of two or more navigation systems provides significant advantage positioning, accuracy, as well as navigation redundancy.

Trimble has been selling GLONASS equipment since 2006. In 2010, the company established a joint venture with Russian Space Systems (50/50) in order to set up GLONASS-based high-precise positioning system in Russia.

Currently, Trimble designs GLONASS/GPS/GALILEO receiver for reference stations, develops SW, and prepares commercial proposals for customers.

In addition to Trimble, other foreign companies also sell GLONASS navigators  - for example, Japanese Topcon, Swiss Leica Geosystems, Canadian Novatel and SkyWave Mobile Communication, Belgian Septentrio.
