OREANDA-NEWS. August 25, 2010. Volume of remittances from Russia to Moldova through the banks and Russian Post in I quarter of 2010 increased by 15,1% - up to USD137 million as compared to the same period of 2009. According to the Central Bank of Russia, the average amount of one transaction (remittance) in January-March 2010 accounted for USD 423 against USD 417 for the same period of 2009.

In tote Moldova has taken the 7th place among the CIS states on the volume of remittances from Russia, carried out in I quarter of 2010, after Uzbekistan (USD 383 million), the Ukraine (USD 319 million), Tajikistan (USD 319 million), Kirgizia (USD 199 million), Armenia (USD 147 million), Azerbaijan (USD 141 million).

As it was reported before, according to the National Bank of Moldova, total volume of remittances to Moldova from physical persons from abroad through the commercial banks in I quarter of 2010 accounted for USD 233,4 million, increasing by 3,4% as compared to the same period of 2009.

The volume of remittances to Moldova from physical persons from abroad through the commercial banks in 2009 amounted to USD 1 billion 182,02 million, reducing by USD 478,07 million or by 28,8% as compared to 2008. At the same time USD 982,23 million or 83,1% of total amount were received by means of quick money transfer systems.

In the structure of foreign currency remittances, following the results of 2009, near 54,1% fell to USD, 40,6% - to EUR and 5,3% - to RUB. The leaders on the volumes of remittances to Moldova from different countries are Russia and Italy. According to the World Bank, the remittances from Moldavian working migrants account for near 1/3 of country’s GDP.
