OREANDA-NEWS. August 26, 2010. Almost 700 meters of the pipeline through which, in case of necessity, water will be delivered to the fire source, is laid in the stylobate part of the sports facility. The total length of pipes will amount to 32 kilometers.

The automated water fire-fighting system consists of the pumping station, pipes, control units and distribution network with sprinklers. The water for the fire prevention purposes and domestic drinking purposes will be supplied to the sports facility through two different pipes.

In the premises of the Bolshoi Ice Palace two types of sprinklers are stipulated: drenchers and sprinklers. Drencher installations switch on upon entry of signal from external fire detection devices – for example, from smoke detectors. The sprinklers are equipped with the thermal lock and are automatically activated when the temperature increases up to a certain level (57 degrees or more).

Practically all premises of the Bolshoi Ice Palace will be equipped with the automated water fire-fighting system. It will also provide protection of the dome metal structure, for which purpose the water with the help of the pumping station will be supplied to a height of more than 50 meters. In the places where it is forbidden to use water for fire extinguishing (for example, in electric rooms), gas or dry powder extinguishing installations will be located.

Commissioning and start-up of all the utility facilities of the Bolshoi Ice Palace for Ice Hockey, including the automated fire-fighting system, will be performed in November 2011.
