OREANDA-NEWS. August 30, 2010. Core fueling of the TBCA-T fuel, produced by the Russian TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom in the reactor core of the first power unit of the “Temelin” Atomic Power Station (Czech Republic) was successfully finished.

In 2006 OJSC TVEL won the tender for supply of the fresh fuel for two power units of the “Temelin” NPP. Fuel of the Russian manufacturer was highly commended for safety, economic effectiveness and exploitation characteristics.

According to the results of the tender between OJSC “TVEL” and CEZ a contract was signed, providing the supplies of the Russian fuel in the volume of 10 overloads for each power unit, beginning from 2010.

The second reactor of the station shall also be fully supplied with TVEL fuel, beginning from 2011.

On the 18th of August 163 cassettes TBCA-T were loaded in the reactor core of the 1-st unit of the “Temelin” NPP. This type of fuel is based on TBCA-ALFA structure.

Fuel assemblies, specially produced for the Czech partners, are heavy duty and have high durability to deformation due to a number of new engineering solutions (including, so called “stiffening angles”, combined grid and anti-debris filter).Assemblies use uranium-gadolinium fuel, providing the possibility of maneuver mode operation of the NPP, i.e. with changing reactor power.

Reaching of the 100% power of the power unit is planned by the end of September of this year.

TVEL Fuel Company also carries out fuel supplies for another Czech power station – “Dukovany” NPP.
