OREANDA-NEWS. August 30, 2010. A visit of the US delegation for the purposes of the HEU-LEU Program to SChE OJSC (part of TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom) was completed. The visit was conducted in accordance with the Agreement between the US Government and the RF Government Concerning Disposition of Highly Enriched Uranium Extracted from Nuclear Weapons dated February 18, 1993.

Within two weeks American specialists have conducted works at the coordinated inspection points of SChE's chemical and metallurgical works, sublimation works, and isotope separation works. The inspectors have acknowledged compliance of the Russian side with transparency measures when processing highly enriched uranium (HEU) into low enriched uranium (LEU). The Russian side has incurred no reprimands.

Substitution of radioactive sources in the HEU-LEU mixing control facility at SChE’s isotope separation works was successful. Upon conducting calibration and testing the American specialists have ascertained that the facility is ready for further exploitation. The Russian specialists – representatives of SChE OJSC isotope separation works, Russian Federal Nuclear Center – Zababakhin All-Russia Research Institute of Technical Physics (RFYaTs VNIITF) in Snezhinsk – participated in the work along with the American specialists. When summing up, Viki Brook, head of the delegation, noted a well-managed organization of the Russian specialists’ work.

Control system installation enables the American inspectors to confirm that the Russian side strictly adheres to the conditions of the Contract on Weapons-Grade Uranium Reprocessing. By agreeing to constant hardware check Russian nuclear enterprises confirm their irreproachable fulfillment of the Russian-American Agreement’s conditions.
