OREANDA-NEWS. September 7, 2010. According to the plan of reorganization of the power sector, the head office of the central administration and top management of Lietuvos Energija will be relocated from the premises in the center of Vilnius to the premises of Lietuvos Elektrine AB in Elektrenai and will open on September 13. The decision on the relocation of the head office was approved by the Management Board of Lietuvos Energija.

The power generation block will be formed on the basis of Lietuvos Energija by reorganizing and centralizing generation capacities and transferring auxiliary functions to service enterprises. Seeking a more efficient management of the operation processes, the head office of the block will be located in Elektrenai – the place where major operations are concentrated. 60 employees of Lietuvos Energija will start working in Elektrenai on September 13.

“The administrative divisions will be concentrated in a place where major operations, i.e. power generation, are carried out. The main generation capacities are concentrated in Elektrenai, Kaunas and Kruonis. These locations are related to the major power generation development projects: the construction of the ninth unit of the Lietuvos Elektrine power plant and the fifth unit of Kruonis pumped storage plant,” said Aloyzas Koryzna, Chief Executive Officer of Lietuvos Energija.

According to Mr. Koryzna, the concentration of specialists in Elektrenai will enable expeditious solutions concerning the tasks of electricity generation and its development projects, as well as saving lease and other infrastructure related costs. Furthermore, the concentration of generation in one company will be useful to respective service enterprises and business partners – there will be a major client on the market who manages the principal power economy in a single place, in line with uniform principles.

The generation block, formed on the basis of Lietuvos Energija, is one of the four functional blocks to be designed in implementing the power sector plan. Other units will cover the areas of electricity transmission, distribution and service. According to the estimates previously announced by the Ministry of Energy, the restructured energy enterprises will result in saving approx. 10 per cent of costs over a year, while more efficiently operating companies of the sector will create added value to shareholders and guarantee stable electricity prices for consumers.

The reform of the power sector is aimed at making the Lithuanian power economy more efficient and increasing energy independence of Lithuania. Furthermore, the operating model of the sector will comply with the requirements of the EU third energy package and create the conditions to integrate the Lithuanian power system in the European Union market as well as ensure the funding of the strategic energy projects.

The new head office of Lietuvos Energija will be located in the premises of the Lietuvos Elektrine power plant at Elektrines g. 21, Elektrenai.
