OREANDA-NEWS. September 16, 2010. Haulage of coal in Freight One cars from Kansk-Achinsk in Krasnoyarsk Territory to the Ryazan State-Owned Regional Power Plant (GRES), also known as OGK-6, one of Russia’s top five power plants in installed capacity (3,070 MW), increased in July-August 2010 by 47% over the last year. Freight One hauled about 120,000 metric tons of coal to the suburban Moscow GRES during the two-month period. The deliveries are being made along a route exceeding 4,300 km in length from the Pereyaslovsky coal mine being worked by Krasnoyarskkrayugol OJSC.

The increased demand for steaming coal was mainly due to a seasonal factor, namely, the extremely hot weather that was experienced in the central regions of the country in July and August. According to Russia’s weather service, Moscow had its hottest July on record, with the average temperature exceeding the norm by 7.8°C. This induced regional power stations to increase electricity production and, consequently, fuel consumption.

Freight One hauled a total of 345,000 metric tons of steaming coal to the Ryazan GRES from January to August 2010. It is expected that oil deliveries will be maintained at the level of 60—70,000 metric tons in September.

Located 285 km from Moscow, the station is one of the key suppliers of heat and electricity in the Central Federal District. The main fuel of the first round of the power plant, accounting for about 70% of the total, is lignite from the Kansk-Achinsk coal basin.
