OREANDA-NEWS. September 16, 2010. Freight One’s Irkutsk branch hauled more than 180 flatcars of metal constructions for bridges being built for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in Vladivostok in 2012.

Test hauling from Zaudinsk Station in the Republic of Buryatia to Nakhodka Station in Primorye Kray was conducted in March 2010, involving a total of 14 flatcars loaded with bridge components made by Ulan-Udestalmost CJSC. The rate of haulage was then increased to 30—40 flatcars per month.

The metal constructions being hauled by Freight One are being used in the construction of a unique bridge across the Eastern Bosporus Strait. The longest cable-stayed bridge in the world will link Nazimov Peninsula and Russky Island, which will host the main activities of the APEC summit. Freight One will also haul prefabricated constructions for bridges over Zolotoy Rog Bay and Amur Bay.

The terms of the contract with Ulan-Udestalmost CJSC suppose timely freight deliveries until the bridges are fully built.

The bridges are to be opened in March 2012, six months prior to the Asia-Pacific summit. The cable-stayed bridge will be 3.1 km in length. Its 1104 meter central span will be the world’s longest.
