OREANDA-NEWS. September 17, 2010. In Novomoskovsk (Tula Region) a three-party "Clean Water for Novomoskovsk" agreement was signed by Viacheslav Dudka, Governor of the Tula Region, EuroChem CEO Dmitry Strezhnev and the Head of the Novomoskovsk City Administration, Vadim Zherzdev.

The parties signed the agreement with the goal of optimizing the water supply and disposal system in order to provide the necessary volumes of clean drinking water for the residential and social infrastructure of Novomoskovsk. Within the framework of the agreement, EuroChem’s NAK Azot plant will build a closed water circulation system that re-uses waste water through a biological purification process. As a result of this project, the company will significantly reduce its own fresh water consumption and increase the volume of fresh water available to Novomoskovsk, which currently suffers from a deficit of clean drinking water.

According to the project, NAK Azot plans to build water supply facilities with a capacity of 60,000 m3 of drinking water per day that will utilize river water from the Pronsky reservoir.

The estimated cost of this program is approximately RUR 5bn and it is expected to take 5 years to complete.  Funding for the agreement is expected to come from the Novomoskovsk Administration and NAK Azot, as well as from the federal "Clean Water" program.

As a result of the "Clean Water for Novomoskovsk” project, the city’s drinking water deficit will be resolved, the cost of water transportation and processing will be reduced, and the quality and availability of water be significantly improved.
