OREANDA-NEWS. September 17, 2010. Kaluga Turbine Works (KTZ, OJSC), a part of Power Machines concern, completed the manufacture of two steam turbine units for Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, the world’s first floating nuclear power plant.

Under the terms of the contract signed between KTZ Open Joint-Stock Company and Rosenergoatom Concern, the former is to provide the FNPP with two steam turbine units rated at 35 MW each. The TK-35/38-3,4 steam turbine unit is a modular machine mounted on the same frame with a generator of identical capacity. The generators were manufactured and shipped to KTZ by Power Machines branch – Elektrosila.

A prototype steam turbine unit was designed by KTZ. For Kaluga Works, this became the first project involving such type of power machines. It took almost three years to manufacture the two units. A new test stand was designed and built to test the STUs.

The STUs are currently being prepared for shipment. Since the units are supposed to be shipped by large modules, the total time required for the on-site installation will be considerably reduced. Both water and rail transportation is envisioned.
