OREANDA-NEWS. September 17, 2010. I.T. Co. upgrades hardware and software for the multifunctional information system (MIS) of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation. I.T. Co. was contracted by The Federal Government Agency “The Data Processing Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation”.

Following the result of an open tender, held at the end of last year, I.T. Co. was appointed contractor. By that time the customer faced the need to upgrade their existing computing system, to enhance capacity of servers and consolidate all operating data into a single data repository. All systems were running on individual servers, there was no efficient data backup, and as a result there was a high probability of data loss in case of failure of any component of the computing infrastructure.

The Data Processing Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology decided on a solution based on virtualization because it allowed a relatively low cost implementation of a flexible infrastructure, which is ready for rapid changes in accordance with decided objectives, and to ensure balance, planning and accounting of the use of hardware computing power.

As a part of the implementation, I.T. Co. specialists audited existing ICT infrastructure, carried out equipment supply and installation, implemented virtual infrastructure and ensued the transfer of all information services to the virtual infrastructure in online mode (without interruption to users). The customer was supplied with five HP BL460G6 blade servers, Kraftway ESVA data storage system with a capacity of 4.8 TB and VMware vSphere Enterprise Edition virtualization software.

Notably, the old equipment of The Data Processing Center of the Ministry was deployed as a backup computing platform, which allowed greater availability of key information services.

The computing infrastructure, implemented by I.T. Co. specialists, has a scope of undeniable advantages. Therefore, the customer’s IT specialist received at their disposal a centralized console to manage server infrastructure. It allows IT specialists of the Ministry to flexibly allocate resources for the necessary applications, and, as a result, to significantly reduce deployment time of new services, as well as to reduce downtime of information resources. This solution also allowed significant reduction expenditures on purchasing of additional server hardware.

Later on, basing on infrastructure implemented by I.T. Co. specialists, The Data Processing Center of the Ministry plans to deploy a single inventory system infrastructure, as well as a centrally controlled ServiceDesk.

“The project implemented by I.T. Co. specialists has great importance for us. The upgrade of the hardware and software technological platform permitted us to enhance the fault-tolerance of the information infrastructure of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, ensuring a unified approach to data archiving and backup procedures for various information systems, and to establish the possibility to use a unified installation procedure of different solutions”, — Alexander Ovcharov, Director of The Federal Government Agency. — “The Data Processing Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, said.
