OREANDA-NEWS. September 20, 2010. Montreal hosted the 21st World Energy Congress. This year’s topic of the Congress ‘Responding now to global challenges – energy in transition for a living planet’ brought together about 5000 participants from more than 100 countries.

Within the framework of the Congress a High-level Dialogue on Fostering Investment in Electricity Generation in Central and Eastern Europe took place supported by UN Economic Commission for Europe, EBRD, the World Energy Council (WEC) and e8 (union of the largest energy companies of the world). DTEK became the only Ukrainian participant of the Dialogue on a level with high-profile representatives of regional governments and international organizations.

Summarizing the discussion at the closing session of the Dialogue, M. Timchenko, the CEO of DTEK, said: ‘Ukraine is now on the threshold of significant changes: accession to the European Energy Community. Our sector is now closely facing the challenge to ensure full compliance of Ukrainian legislation and practice to the high European standards in the shortest possible time. It is impossible to achieve this goal without massive investment and DTEK is ready to use all of its abilities and international authority for investors to switch from their wait-and-see attitude to active cooperation with leading companies of the sector’.
