OREANDA-NEWS. September 22, 2010. At the press conference devoted to the forthcoming 11th Baltic Economic Forum, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis informed about the Baltic Council of Ministers scheduled for September 23-24 that is being organized by Latvia within the framework of its presidency of the Baltic Council of Ministers in 2010.

In parallel with the Baltic Council of Ministers, also the 11th Baltic Economic Forum will be held in Riga. In the framework of the Forum, the Prime Ministers of the Baltic countries will participate in the discussion on the experience in overcoming the global economic and financial crisis, future challenges and role of the EU Baltic Sea region strategy for a competitive region.
The Prime Minister informed that at the invitation he had previously extended, on September 23-24, Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky will pay a working visit to Latvia during which the opening of the Belarus-Latvia Investment Forum and the 8th National Exhibition ”BelExpo” in Riga is planned.

Prime Minister V.Dombrovskis noted that also Johannes Hahn EU Commissioner for Regional Policy will pay a visit to Latvia on September 24. It is expected that the Commissioner will initiate the Prime Ministers’ Round Table discussion on the experience of the Baltic countries in overcoming the global economic and financial crisis. This discussion will also be attended by Andris Piebalgs Commissioner for Development. The Prime Minister stressed that the visit of Commissioner Hahn is particularly important for Latvia, expecting the discussions on the next multi-year budget of the EU and future of the EU’s cohesion policy.

The press conference was also attended by Ojars Kehris President of the Economists Association 2010, Ilze Juhansone Head of the European Union Directorate - Ambassador and Vitalijs Gavrilovs President of the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia.

The 11th Baltic Economic Forum will be held on September 23-24. It is being organized by the Business School of Latvia and the Economists Association 2010 in cooperation with the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economics, Representation of the EC in Latvia and the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia.
