OREANDA-NEWS. September 24, 2010. Russia imported 482 kilograms of fresh fuel from 12 countries and 894 kilograms of irradiated highly enriched fuel

As of September 1, 2010 Russia imported 482 kilograms of fresh fuel from 12 countries and 894 kilograms of irradiated highly enriched fuel from Romania, Latvia, Lybia, Poland, the Ukraine, Bulgaria, Czechia, Hungary, Uzbekistan and Kazakstan within the framework of collaboration with IAEA aimed at import of highly enriched uranium fuel of research reactors of Russian design to the Russian Federation, Head of Rosatom Sate Corporation declared on Monday, in the course of the 54th General Conference of IAEA. 

“It’s equivalent to more than 30 destroyed nuclear warheads,” he said.

Representatives of more than 150 states take part in the forum in Vienna. Kirienko is the head of the Russian delegation. Discussion of IAEA business report for 2009 and the agency activity program for 2011 is on the agenda of the conference that will last up to September 24. The forum participants will exchange opinions concerning enhancement of security in the nuclear power field and in the field of nuclear waste handling and measures of defense from the nuclear terrorism, as well as define the prospects of enhanced cooperation in the field of the peaceful atom.
