OREANDA-NEWS. September 28, 2010. JSC FGC UES concluded a contract with the All-Russian electronic technical institute (FGUP VEI) on developing SF6 switchgear ad control gear 220 kV for digital substation. The project is undertaken within JSC FGC UES R&D Program.

“Digital” substation is an element of active-adaptive (intelligent) grid. This project envisages implementation of control, protection and management systems for substations of new generation based on digital data transfer. In particular the program provides for optical digital measuring transformers and new generation digital equipment complexes development and implementation at substations that are much more efficient, eco-friendly and safe compared to the existing analogies.

In accordance with the contract FGUP VEI shall develop for the Federal Grid Company digital metering current transformers and digital metering voltage transformers of new generation and also monitoring and control systems for SF6 switchgear and control gear 220 kV.

Digital metering transformers will enable replacing oil-immersed metering equipment, reducing utilization of high-priced checkout cables and also increasing metering accuracy. Thus reliability will be enhanced of not only metering substation equipment but grid operation in general.

Development of SF6 switchgear and control gear 220 kV for digital substation is planned to be completed by the middle of the next year. In future implementation of new technologies will be possible at several substations of the Federal Grid Company.
