OREANDA-NEWS. September 29, 2010. The Moscow to Novosibirsk flight of Aeroflot was the debut of the second runway of the Tolmachevo airport. Landing of Aeroflot’s Airbus А320 heralds the start of operations of the new runway of the Novosibirsk airport. It will allow the airport to significantly increase its throughput capacity and boost regularity of operations of the airport that is of strategic importance for Russia’s aviation infrastructure, reported the press-centre of Aeroflot.

Tolmachevo was opened on 12 July 1957 when Aeroflot’s Tu-104 departed from the new Novosibirsk airport to Moscow. Aeroflot resumed regular flights to Tolmachevo in 1995. On 9 November, Russia’s largest carrier will celebrate the 15th anniversary of that event.

Currently, Aeroflot offers three flights a day from the Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow to Tolmachevo. The number of passengers uplifted by the company from January to August 2010 on this route totals around 70,000.

The development of the Novosibirsk airport goes in line with Aeroflot’s strategy. The leading Russian carrier considers development of the route network in Russia as a task of paramount importance and intends to become No. 1 in Russian aviation industry by the amount of domestic uplifts.
