OREANDA-NEWS. October 04, 2010. The interbank US Dollar/Leu rate amounted to 11,77 against 12,31 in the middle of the month and 12,07 – in early September. Before the middle of September the official NBM’s rate had the same tendency, on September 1 – 12,1714 lei:USD1, on September 15 – 12,1714 lei:USD1. While in the second half of the month the US Dollar/Leu ratio reduced.

Thus, on September 30 USD1 could be changed for 12,0159 lei. On September 27-October 1 the market purchase/sale rate of US Dollar amounted to 11,74-11,99 lei and 11,95-12,16 lei at the average, respectively. It should be noted that while the level of US Dollar purchase was lower than the NBM’s rate, the sale practically didn’t differ from the official rate that varied from 12,1487 lei (on Monday) to 11,9452 lei (on Friday).

Thus, since the beginning of the week, Leu versus US Dollar has strengthened by about 0,20 lei. The specialists believe that the growth of Lei rate was caused by its liability to economic factors: money flowed in the country from citizens working abroad, and recurrent demand for foreign currency at economic agents, engaged in export/import. On the international market Euro/Dollar rate is growing four sessions running in the course of biddings on the threshold of weak statistical data on production activity in USA and positive news on German retail sector.

On the internal market Euro has sharply “jumped” since the beginning of the week by 1,0134 lei. On Friday the NBM fixed an official rate of 16,3059 lei:€1, while on Monday is was 15,2925 lei.
