OREANDA-NEWS. October 05, 2010. Vice-President of Ingosstrakh IJSC Alexander Podchufarov took part in the 15th Annual Conference of Satellite Communication and Broadcasting Network Operators and Users of the Russian Federation - SATRUS 2010, held in Moscow in Radisson SAS Slavyanskaya Hotel. The event was arranged by the Federal state unitary enterprise Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) and ComNews Conferences. The participants discussed issues concerning prospects for development of the satellite group RSCC, prospects for using the Ka-band for providing satellite broadband access services, and current state and prospects for development of digital satellite communications in Russia.

Alexander Podchufarov’s report was devoted to Ways of Organising Protection of Commercial Interests of Satellite Communication Operators with the State of Orbital Group of Russian Space Vehicles Deteriorating. In his speech Ingosstrakh’s representative specified major risks that satellite communication operators have to face, among which there are full or partial satellite destruction, risk of indirect costs resulting from forced transition from one space vehicle to another, risk of credit default by the operator due to loss in income from space vehicle exploitation, etc.

The speaker noted that currently there are several ways of protecting satellite operators from certain risks.  In particular, a prevention of income loss due to full or partial satellite destruction can be either location of the geostationary orbit of another satellite in this position that can replace the destructed one, or insurance against loss of income. Insurance against loss of income can also protect operators from credit default and indirect costs.

Alexander Podchufarov told the participants of the conference that this type of insurance received practical approval of the international insurance market for payment of insurance indemnity related to full and partial destruction of space vehicles Express-AM11 and Express-AM2.
