OREANDA-NEWS. October 08, 2010. Raiffeisen Bank continues to improve the security of bank card payments for goods and services via the Internet, and has announced the introduction of 3-D Secure technology, which is part of the MasterCard®SecureCode™ programme, for all types of MasterCard, except the Maestro card, reported the press-centre of Raiffeisen Bank.

It is worth mentioning that earlier this year, Raiffeisenbank introduced 3-D Secure technology as part of the Verified by Visa programme for online payments using bank cards with the international payment system VISA.

"Thanks to 3-D Secure, we have created an additional level of security when making bank card payments via the Internet. This technology helps to minimize the risk of unauthorized client card usage whilst making payments to online stores," said Andrey Stepanenko, the head of the Cosumer Banking Directorate and a board member of Raiffeisenbank.

When a payment is being made for the first purchase in an online store, the customer is prompted to activate the MasterCard debit or credit card service. After activating the service, the cardholder is sent a password through his or her cellphone. The transaction will be approved as soon as the customer enters the password into the online store. This service is provided to card holders for free, and is connected to automatically when a purchase is made in any online store that supports the technology 3-D Secure.
