OREANDA-NEWS. October 08, 2010. As it was communicated by Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Valeriu Cosarciuc at the meeting, dedicated to the results of annual activity of the ministry, this year the harvest of sugar beet is very good.

The internal need in sugar in Moldova accounts for near 65 thousand tons, and the rest – 55 thousand tons – are planned to be exported. In this context Minister of Agriculture announced that a new investor appeared on the internal sugar market – Polish company Polski Cukier. The company intends to invest in Cupcini sugar plant, being in state of insolvency.

Estimating the volume of harvested crops, Valeriu Cosarciuc said that current year was productive, except the vintage that suffered from frosts and heavy rains. At the same time the minister said that the purchase price for agriproducts from local producers on the internal market grew against the last year.

For example, the cost of tomatoes makes up 5 lei/kg, and grape of technical grades grew up to 3-5 lei against 1,5 lei in 2009.
