OREANDA-NEWS. October 08, 2010. The Government of Ukraine has imposed a number of restrictions on grain exports from the country. As Andriy Klyuyev, the First Vice-Premier said in his statement, the restrictions are effective until the end of the year and will amount to 2 million tons of maize and 500 tons for bread grain.

"If in the near future the state reserve and agri-fund complete the procurement of grain, then we'll lift these quotas before", RIA Novosti quotes the prime minister as saying.

In connection with the unusual heat this summer, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine had lowered the forecast of corn harvest from 47-48 million to 38-39 million tons. The Government has long considered the possibility of introducing the grain exports restriction, however, delayed the decision making.
