OREANDA-NEWS. October 11, 2010. The team of Vyksa Steel Works (VSW, Nizhni Novgorod Region), part of United Metallurgical Company (OMK), has received a Letter of Appreciation from the Government of the Nizhni Novgorod Region for its contribution in fire-fighting efforts.

The Governor of the Nizhni Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev gave the award to OMK Vice President and VSW Executive Director Vladimir Kochetkov.

The Government of the Nizhni Novgorod Region expressed sincere gratitude to the metal industry workers for the highly organized and coordinated fire-fighting measures taken by their operational mobile teams in critical conditions. "It is difficult to overestimate the contribution made in fire control operations by entities whose professional activities are not related to the forest sector: military servants, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, cadets, and employees of industrial companies and other entities," emphasized Valery Shantsev.

The Government of the Nizhni Novgorod Region awarded Letters of Appreciation to 17 CEOs of local companies and entities who had made the greatest contribution in the forest fire control operations conducted in the summer of 2010.

Let us remind that about 500 employees of VSW and the Casting and Rolling Complex (CRC, Vyksa District), part of OMK, participated in fire fighting activities in the Vyksa District on a daily basis. The metal industry workers protected against fire such population centers as Shimorskoye, Tamboles, Borkovka, Nizhnyaya Vereya, Pristanskoye, Krasny Baken, Snoved, and others.
