OREANDA-NEWS. October 11, 2010. Net inflows of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Belarus increased 7.1% on the year in the first half of 2010 to USD 1.148 billion, a representative in the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) told.

FDI inflows as stockholder capital amounted to USD 1.275 billion, 5.4% of GDP, down 7.4% from the first half of 2009.

Foreign direct investments in the form of stockholder capital reached USD 706.8 million, 55.4% of the total FDI, including USD 21.8 million in the banking sector. Reinvested earnings reached USD 454.8 million, 35.7% of the total FDI.

Loans and credits of foreign companies extended to subsidiaries located in Belarus amounted to USD 113.5 million, 8.9% of the total.

Most FDI inflows were from Russia, at 65.6% of the total, mostly because of the sale of another Beltransgaz stake to Gazprom.

The most attractive sectors for investments, alongside the banking sector, were transport, industry, and retail and public catering,.

Belarus’ FDI in foreign countries amounted to USD 102.2 million in 2009, compared to USD 30.6 million in 2008.
