OREANDA-NEWS. October 11, 2010. Belarus plans to attract 2.5 trillion Belarusian rubles (Br) in investments in its sugar industry, the press service of the president reported.

Most of the funds will be channeled into the construction of a new sugar refinery; at least 800 billion rubles will be spent on modernization of existing factories.

In 2006-2009, over 600 billion rubles were spent on the sugar industry, the press service said.

Beet sugar output is projected to increase 24% on the year in 2015 to 650,000 tonnes. Sugar content in beet is expected to increase to 18% from 16% due to the use of advanced technologies.

Belarus has four sugar refineries now: in Slootsk, Zhabinka, Gorodeya and Skidel. Belarus plans to procure 4 million tonnes of sugar beet in 2010.
