OREANDA-NEWS. October 14, 2010. The second meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Korean commission for trade and economic, scientific and technological cooperation took place in the Turkmen capital. The heads and specialists of government institutions, leading ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korean participated in the meeting.

The Commission is co-chaired by Vice Premier B. Hojamuhammedov and Minister of Knowledge Economy of the Republic of Korea Choi Kyung Hwan.

In their opening remarks the Co-Chairs of the Commission focused with satisfaction on the high dynamics of Turkmen-Korean relations, which had been brought to a higher level in recent years and expressed belief that the meeting would give new incentives to foster the intergovernmental dialogue.

The meeting agenda focused on the approaches to intensifying and diversifying mutually advantageous cooperation. In a businesslike and constructive atmosphere the sides exchanged views on the prospects for effective collaboration in the trade and economic, energy, transport and communication, construction, textile and other sectors. The priority fields of bilateral partnership included the of high-tech sector where the Republic of Korea had made impressive progress.

A focus of the discussion was humanitarian cooperation in the spheres of education and science in particular. Emphasis was put on the need to enhance and expand cultural exchange and establish effective contacts in the spheres of sport and tourism as the key development priorities of both countries.

Upon concluding the meeting Minister of Knowledge Economy of the Republic of Korea Choi Kyung Hwan on behalf of the Korean delegation expressed gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for extending the hearty welcome and creating the conditions conducive to the fruitful activity of the intergovernmental commission, which played a critical role in developing full Turkmen-Korean partnership in the interests of the two friendly nations and states.
