OREANDA-NEWS. October 18, 2010. According to the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), calling the statements of the leaders of the United Moldova Party the political speculations, disorienting the public opinion and destabilizing the situation in the energy sector of the country.

The statements run that from October 13, 2010 current payment for gas should be carried out as per tariff, approved by the ANRE before January 14, 2010. The ANRE considered the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ), leaving valid the decision of the Chisinau Appellation Chamber on cancellation of new tariffs for gas, as indirect support of this party in the election campaign, and an attempt to ignore the status of the ANRE as a single body, authorized to fix the tariffs for services in the energy sector of the country.

The ANRE emphasizes that, taking this into account, the judicial instance had no right to take the decision on the level of tariffs before the examination of a case on the merits. As it was noted, the Agency submitted all the materials and calculations on the prescription of tariffs for natural gas, however the court didn’t studied these proofs yet. The ANRE paid attention that the application of decision of the SCJ as of October 13 might constitute a real danger for the provision of Moldavian consumers with natural gas.

It was emphasized that the application of tariffs, established by the ANRE before January 14, 2010 might cause serious problems in the energy system of the country and result in reduction or complete cessation of natural gas supply from Gazprom, though it didn’t react yet on this. The ANRE believes that there are all lawful grounds to revise the SCJ’s decision as of October 13, 2010. The Agency refuses to believe that someone is interested in destabilization of the gas market and its return to the situation of the 90-ties, with huge debts that were paid off finally by all consumers, but with serious consequences both for energy sector and final consumers.
