The Exhibition of Turkmenistan’s Economic Achievements dedicated to the 19th anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan closed at the Exhibition of Centre in Ashgabat. The forum was organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Economy and Development, the Institute of Strategic Planning and Economic Development.

The scale and popularity of the exhibition of Turkmenistan’s achievements increase with every passing year together with an interest of foreign business circles. For the exposition provides the visitors with the firsthand information about the contemporary patterns and trends in the national economy.

During three days the presentations of the outcomes of activities and the plans for development of all sectors of the national economy were arranged at the Exhibition Centre in Ashgabat, which housed numerous pavilions and expositions demonstrating the progress achieved in all spheres of economic and social life

The departments and subdivisions of the oil and gas, energy, construction and pharmaceutical industries, the spheres of education, healthcare, science, sport and tourism, transport and communications, agricultural, banking and financial, publishing and other sectors showcased their potential, achievements and project interventions.

Leading companies, organisations and producers from all regions of Turkmenistan, well-known private companies and firms participated in the national forum. Along with a variety of industrial products, foodstuffs, handicrafts the exhibition presented large-scale investment projects, innovations, advanced technology and state-of-the-art equipment used in various industries as well as vast opportunities for international cooperation in developing abundant resources of the country.

The forum organizers developed the versatile business agenda of the scientific conference Independent Neutral Turkmenistan – the Country of Great Achievements that focused on such key aspects of the economic policy of the Turkmen state as mitigation of the impact of global financial crisis, the development of the investment programme of Turkmenistan for the period of 2011-2015, the impact of banking reforms on an economic growth, improvement of tax policy, etc.

The work of the conference was organized in four thematic sections. The section “Critical aspects of Turkmenistan’s macroeconomic development” was held at the Institute of Strategic Planning and Economic Development of Turkmenistan. The reports focusing on this theme dealt with the approaches to updating the mechanisms of financial stability, the aspects of investment and credit policies, state regulation of market relations, the principles and factors for building the national innovation system, encouragement of investment activity of the private sector, etc.

The ways of development and diversification of sectors of the national economy were discussed in the Main State Tax Service. The scientific analysis of Turkmenistan’s economic growth was presented during the session. Participants presented the reports on such aspects as the prospects for enhancing the potential of the building materials industry, the importance of construction of the North-South transport corridor, reconstruction of the international sea port in Turkmenbashi. The approaches to increasing agricultural production efficiency, developing the chemical industry, regulating the consumer market, the innovation strategy of tourism industry, Turkmenistan’s integration into the world economy under globalization were addressed during the session.

The meeting at Banking School in Ashgabat focused on the development of the banking sector and entrepreneurship. In a collegial format the ways to upgrade credit, rental and leasing relationships, the transition of the national banking and financial systems to international standards and the development of foreign economic relations in this field were discussed. The reports on the prospects for expanding the state support for small and medium-sized businesses in Turkmenistan, the measures to encourage entrepreneurial activity, adopt advanced instruments and mechanisms for public-private partnerships, best international practice in creating free economic zones were of particular interest to participants.

A wide range of aspects of socially-oriented market economy was covered at the meeting at the Ministry of Economy and Development. Scientists, economists and exerts in this sphere discussed the content and main vectors of socio-economic reforms, including rural reforms, tourism sector development, updated links between employment and educational services, insurance policies, legal framework of entrepreneurship in trade and some other legal issues. The reports presented the viewpoints on the solutions to a number of topical issues oriented towards the concrete needs of industry, business and society.

Such a diversity of themes under discussion at the conference allowed participants to review the current state of key sectors of the national economy, to discuss economic development strategy and tactics with specialists of different sectors of the economy, to consider the most pressing problems and their solutions, to promote the adoption of advanced technologies in upgrading basic production assets and social sphere.

Thus, the main economic forum of the country not only became a showcase of achievements, statement of progress, but also provided an effective platform for fruitful business meetings, exchange of information and drafting of general analytical pictures, served as a working tool for all participants, including heads, leading experts of almost all economics departments of the country.
