OREANDA-NEWS. November 02, 2010. JSC "Locomotive" (subsidiary enterprise JSC “National Company “Kazakhstan Temir Zoly”) and Electrovoz Kurastyru Zauyty LLP (joint venture of JSC “NC”KTZ”, CJSC “Transmashholding” and French “Alstom Transport”) signed in Paris the delivery contract for freight and passenger electric locomotives, reported the press-centre of Transmashholding.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the President of France Nicolas Sarkozy and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev. The President of JSC “NC “Kazakhstan Temir Zoly” Askar Mamin, the Director General of CJSC “Transmashholding” Andrey Andreev and the President of Alstom Transport Philipp Mellier also participated in the event.
In accordance with the contract in the period till 2021 Kazakhstan railways will receive total of 295 electric locomotives – 200 of KZ8A main line freight alternating current electric locomotives and 95 of KZ4A passenger alternating current electric locomotives.

The contact involves foundation of an assembly plant at the territory of Kazakhstan. Components for electric locomotives will be produced in Kazakhstan, and another 18% - in Russia.

Prototype models of the electric locomotives are due to emerge in 2012, the first delivery is planned for 2013.

Set up of electric locomotives production in Kazakhstan is the first international project, which is implemented within the frame of Transmashholding and Alstom Transport strategic partnership. On June 3rd, 2010 the companies signed the Memorandum providing deliveries and localization of electric locomotives production in Kazakhstan. On 19th of June the agreement was concluded in the presence of the presidents of Russia and France for the creation of a joint venture company. On 26th of June the foundation stone of future electric locomotive assembly enterprise was laid.
