OREANDA-NEWS. November 02, 2010.  KAMAZ has opened an assembly plant in Khabarovsk to manufacture vehicles and special machinery bearing the trademark of KAMAZ.

The first KAMAZ assembly facility in Russia has been named OOO KAMAZ-Vostok. The launch ceremony was attended by Vyacheslav Shport, Khabarovsk Territory Governor; Alexander Sokolov, Khabarovsk Mayor; Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of OJSC KAMAZ; representatives of administrative districts of the Far Eastern Federal District, and KAMAZ top mangers.

To date, the JV rents areas of about 600 square meters at one of machine-building plants of the Far Eastern regional center and expects to produce 200-250 vehicles a year. The business project of the enterprise provides for the expansion of the production facilities up to 2,000 sq m as the assembly increases in future. Assembly sets delivered from Naberezhnye Chelny will be used for assembly of KAMAZ crew buses, vehicles with crane-manipulators, insulated vans, high-sided trucks and some other vehicles there. The mix of all-purpose parts and units is produced by local enterprises, while some special-purpose auto components will be bought in South Korea.

The work of the JV organized in such a way will lead to a considerable cost reduction of production. Up to now, transportation of outsized vehicles by rail through the whole country greatly reduced the price competitiveness of the vehicles. Besides, timing of KAMAZ’s Far Eastern customers’ orders will be reduced.

As one of the guarantors of Russia’s transportation security, KAMAZ initiated another novelty in the Russian automobile industry having organized the first assembly enterprise on the territory of the country.
