OREANDA-NEWS. November 09, 2010. In Hanoi, in the presence of President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Minh Triet an agreement for cooperation in construction of an NPP in the territory of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam was made between the two countries governments.

The agreement was signed by General Director of Rosatom State Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko and Minister of Industry and Trade of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Vu Huy Hoang. The agreement provides for turnkey construction of two power units of Ninthuan-1 NPP (according to the Russian technology) with 1,200 MW capacity each. Atomstroyexport, an affiliated company of Rosatom State Corporation, will construct the first NPP in Vietnam, and EVN, a Vietnamese corporation, will be the customer.

Recently, the Russian-Vietnamese relations in the area of nuclear technology have developed very dynamically. Since July 2009 Rosatom and the Vietnamese party have signed the Memorandum of Intentions concerning the cooperation in the framework of the SRV national nuclear power development program between Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam of July 25, 2009; the Memorandum of understanding between Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Rosatom State Corporation concerning cooperation within the framework of the first Vietnamese NPP construction project of December 15, 2009; and the Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of personnel training for the SRV nuclear power industry between the Ministry of Education of Vietnam and Rosatom State Corporation of March 17, 2010.
