OREANDA-NEWS. November 11, 2010. The 500th coil of cored wire used as an inoculant was manufactured at the end of October in the cored-wire production area of the cast iron foundry at KAMAZ-Metallurgy Plc.. Just to remember, the striving to save on buying the expensive imported similar inoculant on which the modern method of ironmaking is based, induced to manufacture the own inoculant of the kind.

The technological process was successfully mastered, and it is already one year and a half the own-brand cored wire SFEROKAM is used for treatment of cast iron according to the ladle inoculation technology.

Every day three 1-ton wire coils are manufactured on the equipment of PROGELTA S.r.l., an Italian company. They make about 75 tons of cored wire monthly. However, up till now the manufacturing capacities and the routine of work of the cored-wire production area meet only 75% of the cast iron foundry requirements for the inoculant. There is an idea to increase the volume of output by switching over to the two-shift operation there. In such a way the specialists plan to satisfy not only the own needs for the cored wire but also to enter the domestic market.

We would like to emphasize that the success of the ladle inoculation technology is directly related to the quality of the inoculant. That is why the experimental laboratory for cored wire development and manufacture was established in the production area already in 2009. Owing to the process control on the precise adjustment level the KAMAZ foundrymen have succeeded in achieving the sustained high performance of iron castings.
