OREANDA-NEWS. November 13, 2010. Power Machines completed works to manufacture the ninth runner for the turbines of Boguchanskaya HPP which is being built by RusHydro JSC and UC RUSAL on the Angara River, Krasnoyarsky Kray. The customer’s representatives inspected the runner’s geometry and assessed the quality of welding work and adjustment. Following the grinding process and final tests, the runner was accepted by the customer and passed over to the painting shop.

By their weight and size, Boguchanskaya HPP’s runners are the largest ones among those produced in Russia over the recent decades. Each runner incorporates eleven blades, its weight is 155.6 tons and diameter is 7.86 meters.

Under the 2006-2007 contracts signed by Power Machines, on one side, and the partner companies that jointly undertook the construction project – RusHydro JSC and UC RUSAL, – on the other side, Power Machines Company is to design, manufacture, and ship to Boguchanskaya HPP nine hydraulic turbines and nine hydraulic generators rated at 333 MW each. The power plant equipped with this machinery is expected to have an installed capacity of 3,000 MW, with long-term annual average performance equal to 17.6 bln kWh.

The runners Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4 were shipped to Boguchanskaya HPP during the 2008-2009 navigation seasons, and a set including the runners Nos. 5, 6, and 7 was shipped on September 9, 2010. The delivery route, which exceeds 6,500 km, passes through sea and river basins, and namely the Ladoga Lake, the Onega Lake, the White Sea – Baltic Sea Canal, and the Northern Sea Route (through basins of the White Sea, the Barents Sea, and the Kara Sea) as well as the Yenisei River and the Angara River. The runner No. 8 has already been prepared for transportation, whereas the activities to ship the runners Nos. 8 and 9 are expected to commence in the 2011 navigation season.

The operations currently being carried out within the frames of the Boguchanskaya HPP construction project involve installing the hydraulic units Nos. 1, 2, and 3 for the first start-up facility. The installation of the Hydro-Unit No. 1 is scheduled to commence on July 1, the Hydro-Unit No. 2 – in the first ten-day period of September, and the Hydro-Unit No. 3 – in October 2010. The timeframe for the installation of the main hydraulic unit comprises eleven months (twelve months if taking into account commissioning operations). The installation and commissioning period for all subsequent hydraulic units, starting with the second one, will be ten months.
