As reported by Regions.Ru in the press service of the upper chamber of the Russian parliament, opening the meeting, Alexander Torshin emphasized the importance of the nuclear power industry in the modern economy. The First Vice Speaker told the audience about the Federation Council work at creation of a regulatory framework of the nuclear industry of the country.

First Deputy Chairman of Natural Monopolies Committee of the Federation Council Valentin Mezhevich, Chairman of subcommission on nuclear power industry of Natural Monopolies Committee of the Federation Council Nikolay Kosarev, Deputy General Director – Secretary of State of Rosatom State Corporation Tatyana Elfimova took part in the meeting on the Russian part.

In the course of the meeting the parties shared the experience of legislative support of the nuclear power industry, discussed the issues of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel handling.

“We are satisfied with the fact that our country has managed to cope with the "Chernobyl syndrome”, Valentin Mezhevich mentioned. “Some years ago we entered a period of nuclear renaissance”. According to him, at present reliability and safety level of Russian nuclear power plants is very high. The senator noted that Russian legislators were interested in the experience of the French colleagues in creation of a legal and regulatory framework in the field of the nuclear power energy.
