OREANDA-NEWS. November 13, 2010. The EU could consider providing macro-financial assistance (MFA) to Belarus, should the necessary preconditions be met, including the conclusion of a new program with the IMF, according to a statement issued following a Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

Earlier, Charge d’affaires of the European Commission to Belarus Jean-Eric Holzapfel said in an exclusive interview with Prime-Tass that the Belarusian authorities had discussions with the European Union (EU) addressing the possibility of receiving financial aid to mitigate the effects of the global crisis, but there has been no official request for financing.

“There is indeed an interest of Belarus in a facility which is a kind of supplement to the IMF loan,” Holzapfel said.
