OREANDA-NEWS. November 15, 2010. It was communicated by Vladimir Filat after the cabinet meeting. He said that to become a member of the EU it was necessary first of all to make an application and Moldova intended to make it with regard for the progress in carrying out reforms and applying the European standards in the country.

It should be mentioned that on the 25th of October 2010 the Council of the EU for foreign affairs recommended the European Commission to prepare a plan of action on the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldova. In accordance with the EU Council decision taken at the meeting in Luxemburg this plan will contain the conditions under which there will be possible to allow the citizens of Moldova to visit the EU countries with no visa required.

According to experts in Moldova, by this decision the EU will give a political support to the pro-European liberal-democratic coalition on the extraordinary parliamentary elections taking place on the 28th of November 2010. Earlier the prime minister of Moldova said that the state authorities expected to have the visa regime with the EU liberalized in 2012.

According to him, the conditions of this liberalization have to do with the safeguarding of personal data security, identity cards security, security at the state borders, readmission and creating adequate conditions for migration. Vladimir Filat also mentioned that some of these obligations had already been implemented in the country; some others would be implemented in the near future. On the 15th of June 2010 Moldova and the EU entered into the negotiations for the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldova the aim of which is to allow the citizens of the country to visit the EU without visa.
