OREANDA-NEWS. November 25, 2010. By Mid-October this year Vnukovo International has welcomed more air travelers than in all of the same month last year. A total of 7 million 730 thousand passengers made Vnukovo International their airport of choice last year. The Airport's total passenger traffic has grown 24,3 percent since the year began, with a 22,5 percent growth on domestic routes and 30,1 percent more international passengers welcomed respectively.

It is another two and a half months before the year is out, but even as early on as now an extrapolation can safely be made based on the existing passenger number growth that the initial passenger growth forecast for 2010 will be exceeded and the Airport will welcome more than nine million air travelers. This has as much to do with a rebound of the Russian air travel market following the crisis, as with the vast infrastructural improvements at Vnukovo International in particular. The launch Stage One of the Airport's all-new passenger Terminal A has been operating in test mode since July 2010, and its added capacity will allow to raise the Airport's total passenger throughput to 15 million by the Summer of 2011.

Vnukovo International is one of Russia's largest air gateways with more than 150 thousand flights - operated by both Russian and foreign carriers - handled here every day. The Airport's route network map spans most of the Federation's regions, as well as the CIS and other former Union member-nations, and those of Western Europe, Asia, and Africa.
