OREANDA-NEWS. November 26, 2010. SCM has participated in an international corporate responsibility conference initiated by the United Nations. The conference delegates underlined the role of the UN Global Compact in promoting CSR principles and outlined further steps to make the principles as mainstream for the European businesses.

The conference "European Trends in CSR Development: Enhancing Cross Border Dynamics within the Global Compact Local Networks" organised by the UNGC Local Network Belgium in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme and the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was held in Brussels on 29 October 2010.

The main discussion issues included modern CSR development trends, a role of the Global Compact in promoting responsible business principles and possible steps to increase a number of companies working to these principles.

The event brought together experts in the area of CSR in Europe, the Western CIS and Caucasus. Panelists came from the private sector, academia, civil society, government and international organizations.

SCM was represented by Director of International and Investor Relations Jock Mendoza-Wilson, who is also the UNGC Steering Committee Chair in Ukraine. He made a speech in the session "Have Regional CSR Models Emerged?"

"These events play a big role for the UNGC signatories and UN representatives. Firstly, they help to develop a common strategy of socially responsible business. Also, such meetings help us to promote the UNGC's 10 principles in the business community. Doing business in a responsible way is both good for society and good for business," said Jock Mendoza-Wilson.
