OREANDA-NEWS. November 30, 2010. JSC FGC UES branch – Backbone electric grids (ES) of South – completed construction of cable power transmission line 110kV Laura – Rose Khutor (Krasnodar Territory). Construction was completed within the Federal target program “Development of the town of Sochi as a mountain-climatic resort (2006-2014)”. The new line is designed for power supply to sports facilities to be constructed for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Due to cable version the unique flora and wildlife sanctuary environment was entirely preserved. Both circuits of the line are laid in special channels and run in one cut. That technical solution enabled facilitating work and reducing cost of construction.

Cable power lines with cross-linked polyethylene insulation have certain advantages as compared to overhead transmission lines – they are more eco-friendly, safe and reliable in operation.

Till the end of 2010 five cable power transmission lines 110 kV will be built in the area of the settlement of Krasnaya Polyana with total length of 27 km. They will provide for power supply to the 2014 Olympic Games facilities under construction including winter sports center, snowboard park, etc.

JSC FGC UES carries out construction and renovation of electric grid facilities for the 2014 Olympic Games power supply in accordance with timetable set forth by the International Olympic Committee and the Federal target program “Development of the town of Sochi as the mountain climatic resort”. Totally during 2009-2014 the Federal Grid Company will construct, upgrade and renovate 21 backbone electric grid facilities on the territory of Sochi region.
