OREANDA-NEWS. December 6, 2010. JSC FGC UES branch – Backbone Electric Grids (MES) of South – started constructing substation 110 kV Izumrudnaya in Sochi region. The new substation having capacity of 80 MVA is planned for commissioning in 2012 and will peovide power supply to communication and engineering infrastructure aimed to service the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, the international airport in Sochi as well as integrated highway and railway road Adler – the mountain and climatic resort Alpica-Service. Investments in construction of the power facility will amount to RUR 320 mln.

Currently lay out work and mapping of the future substation area of 3,900 sq. m is carried out in Adler district of Sochi. The equipment of the substation will include outdoor switchgear 110 kV, indoor switchgear 10 kV, and two transformers with capacity of 40 MVA each.

Also the substation will be equipped with microprocessor-based relay protection and emergency control schemes, automated process control systems and system for commercial accounting for electric power. The power facility will be powered and controlled remotely from substation 220 kV Psou.

JSC FGC UES carries out construction and reconstruction of electric grid facilities to provide power supply for the 2014 Olympic Games under the schedule stipulated by the International Olympic Committee and the Federal Target Program “Developing of the town of Sochi as a mountain and climatic resort”. Totally in 2009-2014 Federal Grid Company will construct, modernize and renovate 21 backbone electric grid facility located on the territory of Sochi region.
