OREANDA-NEWS. December 6, 2010. Within the framework of the official visit of the RF President Dmitry Medvedev to the Republic of Korea Chairman of JCS FGC UES Management Board Oleg Budargin and Hyundai Heavy Industries CEO Qhe Sik Min signed today a Cooperation agreement on implementing intelligent grid. The document was signed for the purpose of improving and enhancing efficiency, reliability and safety of electric grid infrastructure and aimed at developing Memorandum of understanding previously signed between JC FGC UES and Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Within the entered engagement it is planned to carry out activities aimed at developing new technologies in electric grid complex and also at implementing innovative equipment and turnkey solutions while designing, constructing and operating power facilities.

In particular the parties intend to cooperate in implementing projects on digital substations, introducing electrical equipment based on superconductivity technology. The document also provides for cooperation in applying power semiconductor converter equipment to compensate for reactive power in electric grids, developing and using energy storage systems. In addition, cooperation of the companies will be focused on development of advanced power transmission and substation equipment monitoring and diagnostic systems in order to enhance reliability of power supply and prevent contingency situations.

Within the signed agreement the parties agreed to establish in Russia joint scientific and research center responsible among other for developing the concept of implementing megalopolis electric grid, developing recommendations on rational use of various types of electrical equipment, preparing documentation on urban underground substation and other power facilities engineering.

In addition the agreement signed provides supporting for R&D realization and implementation within electric grid complex as well as for implementing joint projects on intelligent grid territorial clusters in Russia and the Republic of Korea.
