OREANDA-NEWS. December 07, 2010. The Environmental Protection Department of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. together with the Maritime Institute in Gdansk organized the seminar relating to the SMOCS Project (Sustainable Management of Contaminated Sediments in the Baltic Sea. The seminar took place on 30th November 2010 at the headquarters of the Port Authority.

The CMOCS Project is aimed to deepen the current knowledge about methods and technologies used to deal with the contaminated sediments located at the sea bottom as well as to develop international guidelines how to deal with the contaminated sediments. Those guidelines will be helpful at taking construction works decisions necessary to create new port areas and, e.g. to build roads.

The new method of stabilization of contaminated sediments proposed in the project will allow for more effective and balanced management of the sediments and reduction of their negative impact on the environment. The seminar was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Marshalls Office in Gdansk, the Maritime Office in Gdynia, the Town Council of Gdynia, Port of Szczecin-Swinoujscie, Port of Gdansk and the guests from Sweden.
