OREANDA-NEWS. December 22, 2010.  Road from the “Alpika-Service” resort to the confluence of rivers Mzymta and Pslyh will change its class in order to save the landscape of the river Mzymta. An appropriate decision was reached at the session of SC “Olympstroy” Technical Committee.

The 3S-cable car bottom station building site will be moved from the area at the confluence of rivers Mzymta and Pslyh to the right bank of the river Mzymta to the water intake of the mountain resort “Rosa Khutor”. The length of the two-lane road, earlier planned to run along the bed of river Mzymta to its confluence with river Pslyh, will decrease by almost 2 km. It will lower the road’s category to 5th, which means the road will have only 1 lane with roadsides up to 1 m wide. It will result in less tree felling volume and landscape impact. The design will include solutions to improve the visual variety of the surrounding landscape.

According to SC “Olympstroy” vice-president Yuri Tyrtyshov, the decision to move the cable car station will not only decrease tree felling volume, but also the costs of design and construction of the Olympic venues. Moreover it will allow to comply with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee on the methods of transporting spectators to the mountain cluster venues – by railroad and cable car roads. According to the previous project, construction of the cable car station at the confluence of rivers presupposed to use buses on a section of the motorway, which is the least effective way of transportation.

In addition, such a decision will assure safety of the narzan mineral water spring, located nearby the confluence of rivers Mzymta and Pslyh.
