OREANDA-NEWS. December 23, 2010. The Room of Prayer was opened and sanctified at Vilnius International Airport (VIA). All passengers waiting for their flights will have the opportunity to stay and pray in a silent and calm room void of any usual noises of the airport at any time of the day, reported the press-centre of Vilnius International Airport.

On the occasion of the approaching Christmas, VIA offered a new service to its passengers – a renewed Room of Prayer was opened at the airport on Monday. Such a service was introduced seeking to increase the attractiveness of Vilnius Airport for passengers and to enhance the quality of services.

The Room of Prayer was already available at Vilnius Airport more than ten years ago but it was closed to visitors due to various reconstructions. Now, the renewed room was re-opened to the visitors in the same location.

“Rooms of prayer are available in a number of airports worldwide. Thus, we also decided to open such a room before Christmas willing to provide such an opportunity to our passengers. The Room of Prayer of Vilnius Airport is so far the first and only such place in Lithuania”, VIA Managing Director Tomas Vaisvila welcomed the first visitors of the Room of Prayer.

St. Michael parish priest Medardas Ceponis, who sanctified the Room of Prayer, expressed his delight about such a nice initiative to open and sanctify the Room of Prayer before Christmas, i.e. the time when “Jesus Christ acquires his human shape and, like us, travels across the world”.

The Room of Prayer is situated in a security restricted area, which can only be accessed by departing passengers. Special signs lead to the Room of Prayer, which is located on the second floor, near Gate A1. The passengers willing to pray in the room will find the Bible in many languages as well as other religious literature.

The Room of Prayer will be open day and night.
