OREANDA-NEWS. December 31, 2010. A press conference of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Uzbekistan I.Sokol was held in Tashkent.

At the briefing, the Belarus envoy shared information regarding the bilateral diplomatic and economic relations of Uzbekistan with Belarus, as well as major prospects of cooperation between the two countries.

The diplomatic ties between Belarus and Uzbekistan were established on 21 January 1993. The embassy of Belarus in Tashkent was opened in February 1994. Overall, 19 interstate and intergovernmental agreements, 13 interdepartmental contracts and 8 other international documents have formed the legal basis of bilateral relations.

It should be noted that bilateral commodity turnover between Uzbekistan and Belarus made up over USD 132 million in January-October 2010, which is 21% higher than in the same period of 2009.
