OREANDA-NEWS. January 3, 2011. The Coordination Center for TLD .ru, which controls the .ru and .pф domain zones, has announced the results of an election of new members to the organization’s Council. Four new members were elected to the Council, including Alexander Panov, managing partner at Hosting Community, part of the RBC Group of companies. Other members elected to the Council include representatives of Rostelecom, the Russian Association of Electronic Commerce and TeliaSonera. The newly elected members are set to assume their duties on January 1, 2011.

Alexander Panov, who is also a member of the Coordination Center’s Expert Committee, noted that in his new capacity he would be working to expand the Council’s scope of activities by engaging as many participants of the Internet market as possible with the help of his extensive experience in the Russian Internet segment.

Hosting Community, an RBC Group company, was created in 2002, and it currently consolidates Moscow and St. Petersburg-based hosting companies, including R01 domain registrars (the trademark of Garant-Park-Telecom) and Centrohost, as well as such hosting companies as Hosting Center, SpaceWeb and Peterhost. Hosting Community is a leader of the Russian web hosting segment, commanding an impressive market share of 20 percent.

Set up in 2001, the Coordination Center for TLD .ru is a non-profit organization that works out domain names’ registration rules in the .ru and .pф domains, provides accreditation of registrars, and examines promising projects that promote the development of the Russian national domain. The Coordination Center’s supreme body is the Council, which consists of experts in the area of address and domain spaces and prominent figures in the Russian Internet community.
